Vertical Truth: Chordal Mechanisms for the Guitar
Unit 3: Open Position Triads
Open position triads (also called, "open-voiced triads") are the foundation upon which many extended and altered chords are built. They occur in ALL styles of music.
This is a lesson series that is supplemental to Unit 3: Triads.

Open position triads are especially prevalent in certain genres of Rock (e.g. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Phish and Incubus), Jazz and Traditional Country, especially Western Swing.
