2025 Photo Retrospective

Mama Ray’s 39th Anniversary Jam was pretty much her final show.

I play other gigs besides the Saturday Jam at BB’s, but this years’ retrospective is necessarily dominated by BB’s.

That’s because Mama Ray passed away in August and so I wanted to make sure the transition of the Jam from Mama Ray to Lori Tucker was well-documented.

You’ll see Mama Ray’s 39th Anniversary Jam on August 9th, which was her second-to-last appearance. One picture from her last jam on August 16 may be the last picture taken of her; she went into the hospital the following day and died a week later.

I wanted to document the jams following her death as we soldiered on without her, as well as the difficult job Lori Tucker took on and what an amazing job she has done! It’s not easy running a jam, much more stepping into a role that was Mama Ray’s for 39 years, which is exponentially more intimidating.

I also wanted to honor some of the many, many musicians who have continued to show up and help us keep the Jam going, and our Jam Family thriving. We thank you!

I will say right upfront that I stole most of the pictures! The main sources are Diana Graves-Six, George Generaux and Brent Canter. Thanks to them, and the many others who document the special moments that happen every week.
