We are back on track with this FREE lesson series called Unique Chord Voicings after
taking a month off in order to launch the latest installment of my guitar method, Vertical Truth: Chordal Mechanisms for the Guitar. Many thanks to those who purchased and, if you purchased, watch for some bonus videos a few weeks from now!
This month's FREE lesson is Lesson 24: Add 5ths to Open-Voiced Diminished 7th Chords.
For those who are new members, I'm using the term "Unique" in a technical sense; it means the particular chord voicing at hand is available only in one key in a single position on the neck - thus, "Unique." Access the blog, Altered States - Unique Voicings for a more detailed explanation.
If you're new, it just happens you're coming in on the tail end of this lesson series - meaning it's at a complex stage. I would recommend you read the blog, and then go to the Free Lessons page in the Members Only area of the website, find the Unique Voicings series and start from the beginning.
For those who have been spending time with this series for the last couple of years, here is the latest:
We're getting close to the end of this series - I'm thinking there will be 3 or 4 more lessons and then we'll start something new.
As with the previous free series, Concepts for Basic Improvising, the Unique Voicings series started out very simple and then took on a life of its own. It is now in the very complex, final stages - after more than 2 years of monthly lessons!
So my intention for the next series to be given away in the monthly newsletter is that it will be beginner-type stuff for a change, albeit with my own unique approach of course!
If you are a beginner, or maybe not such a beginner, there will not only be, "This here is a cowboy G major chord," there will be different voicings, fingerings, and technique tips. In my 35 years of teaching experience I have encountered every way you can imagine that people sabotage themselves with inefficient fingerings, poor technique, and just general non-awareness of what their hands are doing. I will be dealing with all that in addition to teaching the chord, or whatever the subject may be. In other words, I will talk about and demonstrate the "how."
So if you've gotten the impression that my lessons are too advanced for you, be patient - the next FREE lesson series will be for you!
